The reason a slightly older version of a particular software is in the Ubuntu repositories is that it has been tested, approved and is supported in your installed Ubuntu release. ![]() Please keep in mind that the latest is not always the greatest and PPAs can be problematic. I used to use it but as far as I know it hasn't been developed for ages. Where did you get the file? According to their site, the last stable version was released in 2010. I've also used the terminal with the get-apt command but again there are multiple repositories and sometimes the commands can become complicated.ĭownloading the "tarball" version of a software is a method I like because we can usually download the latest version, read up on the documentation etc. The software center was easy to learn but experience has shown that the repository does not always have the latest version. I am still learning the ins and outs of software installation in Ubuntu.
